Leadership

Welcome to St. Joseph's University, New York!

St. Joseph's University is a private institution governed by a 35-member Board of Trustees. The University is led by Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., the eighth president in the institution’s 101-year history. He serves as an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Boomgaarden and his senior staff are responsible for the implementation of College policy. Leadership at St. Joseph’s is committed to carrying out the University’s motto: Esse non videri — “To be, not to seem.”

Service is central to the University’s leadership philosophy. Embracing servant leadership is at the core of the University’s commitment to its mission and to serve every member of this community.

We serve first and then we lead. And we believe this approach best meets the needs of our community and makes St. Joseph’s a very special place.

Founded in 1916 by the Sisters of St. Joseph, the University has never wavered from its central focus – to provide the highest-quality education within a value-centered environment to each of its students, whether traditional age or older, undergraduate or graduate, full or part-time.

Regardless of major or field of study, a St. Joseph’s student’s education is rooted in a liberal arts foundation and the preparation essential for success in a profession, a career or graduate study. St. Joseph’s graduates are well prepared for a life characterized by the University’s five pillars: integrity, intellectual rigor, spiritual depth, social responsibility and service.
